Prof John Fraser AO MB ChB PhD FRCP(Glas) FRCA FFARCSI FCICM FELSO is the Founder and Director of the Critical Care Research Group at the University of Queensland; Director of the Intensive Care Unit at St Andrew’s War Memorial Hospital; Co-Chair of the Global ECMOnet, Founder/Chief Medical Officer of De Motu Cordis; and Immediate Past President of the Asia Pacific ELSO.
He has been awarded five professorships across major Australian universities, with over 800 peer-reviewed publications, and has received more than AUD160 million in competitive grants.
In 2025, Prof John was awarded the Officer of the Order of Australia (AO) for distinguished service to medicine and global critical care research.
He is the proud father of five great children: Ben, Dom, Nick, Lucy, and Tommy, who all say he’s really just a failed footballer.
